Log House Living
May 11 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm$40
Why should kids have all the summer camp fun? On Saturday, May 11, we will host a day camp for grown-ups at the Thomasville History Center’s Smith Homestead. Using our log house and kitchen, “campers” will work together under the supervision of History Center staff and volunteers to prepare a shared lunch on the hearth, plant the History Center’s teaching garden, and experience hands-on activities designed to give 21st century adults a taste of 19th century log house living.
Each participant will make dipped beeswax candles, make and use natural fabric dyes from plants, and take home a small kitchen garden that mirrors the herbs and vegetables in the log house garden. “Log-House Living,” an extension of our popular Hands-On Heritage Workshops and annual summer camps, will begin promptly at 9:30am and end at 3pm. Participants should dress for the outdoors in closed toed shoes and long pants. Hats and gardening gloves are also encouraged.
Priority registration for current History Center members is available through May 6. On May 7, registration will open to the public. Interested participants may register a maximum of two participants by emailing email@example.com or completing registration online.
Fees for this day camp include all materials and your meal. Registration fee: $40/person to be paid immediately following registration online or in person.
