Log House Living
November 16 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm$35 – $40
Why should kids have all the summer camp fun? On Saturday, November 16, we will host a day camp for grown-ups at the Thomasville History Center’s Smith Homestead. Using our log house and kitchen, “campers” will work together under the supervision of History Center staff and volunteers to prepare a shared lunch on the hearth and experience hands-on activities designed to give 21st century adults a taste of 19th century log house living.
Each participant will make dipped beeswax candles, make and use natural fabric dyes from plants, and take home a small kitchen garden that mirrors the herbs and vegetables in the log house garden. “Log-House Living,” an extension of our popular Hands-On Heritage Workshops and annual summer camps, will begin promptly at 9:30am and end at 3pm. Participants should dress for the outdoors in closed toed shoes and long pants. Hats and gardening gloves are also encouraged.
Fees for this day camp include all materials and your meal. Registration fee: Members, $35 & Non-Members, $40
Food Allergy Notice: Please be advised that food prepared at this workshop contains/may contain milk, soybeans, wheat, tree nuts, or peanuts. Food will be prepared in seasoned cast iron which has previously been used to prepare foods containing the previously stated common allergens. As this is a communal meal prepared over an open hearth, we will be unable to make individual accommodations for those with food allergies or intolerances.
