Explore the History Center’s expansive grounds and historic buildings with a staff-facilitated tour. 

Visits are approximately 2 hours and include 3 activity rotations.

The First People

Native Americans in South Georgia: Who were the first inhabitants of South Georgia? Thomas County was created December 24, 1825, but its historical significance goes much farther back in time. In fact, much of South Georgia is made of what land once inhabited by Creek Indians, who had occupied this area for hundreds of years. Explore the culture, customs, and technology of our community’s first residents.

The Victorians: Thomasville’s Resort Era

What made a small southern town one of the most popular resort destinations of the Gilded Age? Tour the Lapham-Patterson House, bowl in the 1896 O.C. Ewart Bowling Alley, and play a few rounds of croquet and graces as we discuss Thomasville’s Victorian history, traditions, and architecture.

We the People: Democracy & Voting in Thomas County

Learn about the three branches of government and the elections process in the 1892 Metcalf Courthouse. Learn about democracy as you hold a mock election or discuss the judicial system while conducting a mock trial.

ADD-ON ACTIVITIES

Add-On Activities can be used in conjunction with tours of two (2) of the Museum’s historic buildings or the Lapham-Patterson House.
